On October 1st, the Medicare Health Plans for next year will be released and we can all start shopping different Medicare Advantage and Drug Plans for 2022! If you do not currently work with an independent local broker, you might want to get in touch to see if we can be of service. Jason and Casey focus specifically on Medicare Health Plans here in Arizona. We compare and analyze plans from year to year to get our clients the benefits they need. If you would like our help in shopping your plan options, you can reach out to us by phone or email.
Protected Classes for Part D drug coverage
Changes that were set to take effect in 2022 would eliminate protected classes of drugs (where the plan has to cover most all of the drugs of that type) and only required plans to cover one drug in each therapeutic class. These changes have been rolled back and the current rules will stand:
Under current statute and regulation, Medicare Part D plans are required to cover two drugs in each therapeutic class, with the exception of six protected classes, of which plans must cover substantially all drugs. The six protected classes are antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, antiretrovirals, antineoplastics, and immunosuppressants for organ transplant.

Why Medicare Options Change from the City to the Country
We moved to Phoenix to sell Medicare insurance. There are a lot of seniors here in Arizona. We help people all over the state, but Maricopa County has the most Medicare Advantage (Part C) options by far, in fact, there are over 55 different plans to choose from! When you shop Advantage plans in other counties, the number of options drops dramatically. This article from Forbes explains why.
Update on Operations
We have adapted to meet where you are most comfortable.
- If you would like a face to face appointment, we will come to your home or get together at a restaurant that is convenient for you.
- If you want to see the big boss (our cat Elvis), we can meet for an appointment over Zoom. We will illustrate your options on Medicare and send you a follow up email summarizing everything we discussed.
COVID-19 Policy Update
We must accept finite disappointment, but never lost infinite hope.

Since we work primarily with seniors, Rane Family Insurance has adapted to offer our services virtually.
We are using Zoom to meet with clients virtually and email/mail to help them get enrolled in their plan of choice. This has turned out to be a very effective way of working, despite the fact that we miss visiting with our clients in person and meeting their adorable pets!
We are planning to continue this protocol at least through the end of 2020, if not longer. Thank you for your patience as we all adapt to new ways of working and the technology that comes along with it. We appreciate all of our clients and are here should you need support in this challenging time.
